The Museum of Illusions

This museum is a great activity to enjoy with groups of all ages. I went with my husband and a couple of our friends and we had an amazing time!

What is the Museum of Illusions?

The museum of illusions is an interactive museum with way more exhibits than I expected, that teach you about different optical illusions, how they work, and what is happening in our brains to confuse us. It’s a great spot for taking really fun and unique photos, but it’s also really enjoyable to just look around, no photos necessary!

One of my favorite picture spots at the museum

I was SO excited to visit the Museum of Illusions because I’ve loved optical illusions ever since I was in elementary school. When I saw the ads for this place, I already knew I was going to really enjoy it!

What is there to do at the Museum of Illusions?

There is SO MUCH to do at the Museum of Illusions! I will admit, before I went, I was thinking to myself: “How much can they really put in an illusion-themed museum?” It turns out that there is a LOT that they can put in it!

Now that previous sentence was a bit convoluted, but what I mean to say is that there’s a suprising amount of things to do and see and learn about at the Museum of Illusions. I couldn’t even count the amount of illusions inside, there were so many!

Some of these illusions are bigger rooms and exhibits where you become a part of the illusion, like this Ames room in the picture. My friends aren’t actually bigger than us, but this picture sure makes it seem like they are!

There’s also some incredibly trippy illusions that photos and videos can’t do justice! At about the middle of the museum, we arrived at a tunnel where you try to walk over a short bridge. The room seems to be spinning around you, and all my weight was on the railing because it felt like the whole room was moving!

Then, along with the big rooms where you’re a part of the illusion, there’s tons of interactive and non-interactive illusions through the museum. Some of them made me slightly dizzy because my brain couldn’t quite figure out what was happening.

One of the coolest parts about the Museum of Illusions is that with every illusion, there’s a plaque that tells you about what is happening, and why your brain gets tricked.

Where is the Museum of Illusions?

There are Museums of Illusions in Salt Lake City (The Gateway), Orlando (ICON Park), Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, San Diego, Santa Monica, Scottsdale, Seattle, St. Louis, Washington D.C., Toronto, and the Mall of America.

All of them are slightly different with different exhibits, but they all are so much fun. I visited the Salt Lake City, Utah location in the Gateway Mall. Even the building itself feels like an illusion because I’m convinced that it’s bigger on the inside.

Anyways, that’s my review of the Museum of Illusions in Salt Lake City, Utah! Check out my other articles for more fun recommendations!
